Calibration Technician-- 2/08

Description of Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

• Calibration and repair of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment with a strong emphasis on RF/Microwave equipment. Other equipment includes, but is not limited to, general-purpose test equipment, physical/dimensional, and industrial equipment such as: multimeters, temperature baths, dry block calibrators, RH/temperature, tachometers (optical & contact), resistance decade boxes
• Perform depot and on-site calibrations as required.
• Develop calibration procedures and recommend associated standards.
• Complete applicable documentation related to assignments in a timely manner.
• Actively participates in a team environment.
• Comply with all EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) requirements.
• Communicate via e-mail, voice mail, memos, logs, etc.
• Ensure all required business tasks are completed in a timely and quality manner.

• Current 4 years plus of relevant experience in the repair / calibration of test and measurement equipment.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills.
• Previous experience working under an ISO9000 and/or ISO 17025 quality assurance program.
• PC skills - Microsoft Excel & Word experience.
• Some travel may be required to perform on-site calibrations.
• Willingness to change shifts as required.

• Formal advanced training in Metrology (i.e. Military PMEL).
• AS degree in an electronics discipline or equivalent experience.

Metrology Technician II -- 2/1/08

Then, we are looking for you! Thermotech, one of the premier custom injection molders of close tolerance, engineered resins, currently has an opportunity for a Metrology Technician II.

Primary responsibilities include programming computer controlled coordinate measure machines (CMM) (touch, probe and vision) using surfaced CAD solid models; performing iterative alignment techniques; reviewing prints and requirements to determine appropriate inspection methods; performing daily/monthly maintenance on inspection equipment; working with Quality Assurance Engineers, Project Managers and design personnel on new and existing projects; providing accurate surface analysis for tool steel modifications that may have significant monetary impact; developing uncertainty budgets for lab inspection equipment; setting up and continuously monitoring statistical analysis of Metrology Lab systems; as well as other important responsibilities.

Your qualifications need to include computer literacy with emphasis on Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD or similar experience preferred; must have experience in surface plate work and demonstrated ability to apply independent judgment; extensive Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing experience and the ability to set-up data import templates; SPC Charting, and to prepare and interpret long and short-term capability studies; must be self-motivating and exhibit leadership ability; inspection techniques, the high degree of accuracy and precision required, the complexity of the molded parts, and the scheduling pressures demand a considerable degree of mental and visual attention; must be able to adapt to changing priorities. Also, at least 5 years of CMM programming experience is required.

Requirements

• Utilize company contact and data management software to optimize information collection and management reporting.
• Travel and attend scheduled laboratory, sales and company meetings, conferences and training sessions.
• Regular communication to sales management of sales forecasts, budgets, action plans and competitive analysis.
• Coordinate and meet regularly with local lab management to ensure seamless operations between sales and other departments and to facilitate superior customer service and new customer development.

The ideal candidate will be an independent, self-starter with a minimum of 2 years of outside sales and account management experience and will be able to meet the position’s objectives with limited direct supervision. The leading candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, manufacturing, quality, marketing or business. Candidates with a strong background in high technology sales, service contract sales and experience in the semiconductor, electronic component, or computing markets will be given favorable consideration. Those holding degrees in other areas, but with significant experience in the aforementioned markets, may also be considered. The ideal candidate will also be proficient in the use of MS Office Suite. Occasional air travel and overnight stays will be required. Both written and verbal communication skills are extremely important.

Metrology Group Supervisor

JPL is currently seeking a Group Supervisor to join the Metrology Group in the Measurement Systems Group. In this role, you will:

• Participate as a member of Section management team in reaching Section's vision and goals. Participate as a member of Division Leadership Council in reaching Division's vision and goals. Maintain frequent interaction with internal and external customers to convey information, establish needs, resolve issues and evaluate performance. Be responsible for the recruitment and development of technical staff consistent with the Section and Laboratory programmatic and administrative goals. Secure necessary resources across JPL and contracting companies to meet all customer commitments. Assist in ensuring effective implementation and coordination across multiple internal and external customers. Will report to the Section Manager.

• Will lead and oversee group personnel in a variety of activities including development and delivery of leading edge electrical/mechanical hardware and software to produce integrated measurement and test systems, meeting applicable flight and ground systems requirements across all spaceflight and ground support systems (spacecraft, instruments, support equipment and research/technology development).

• Be responsible for the product development life cycle include planning, requirements, design/development, fabrication, assembly, integration/test and post-delivery support (higher level development, integration/test and mission operations).

• Work with outside contractors, vendors and collaborators to improve technical capabilities and business efficiencies and will be cognizant over schedule, resources and technical performance of all assigned group activities on behalf of the section.

• Plan and implement technology development alongside customer work with an emphasis on innovation, collaboration, reporting (e.g., publications, NTRs, patents), and maximum infusion into JPL projects and research/technology development.

This position typically requires:

• Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with 6+ years experience, or a MA/MS degree with 10+ years experience, or a BA/BS degree with 12+ years, or equivalent related technical work experience

• Strong technical background and experience in the development and delivery of hardware and software systems that support spaceflight systems.

• Ability to evaluate commercial test and measurement hardware and software products and to configure and deliver turn-key measurement and control systems comprising software, sensors, signal conditioning, processing, data acquisition, analysis, display, simulation and control capabilities.

• Strong background and experience in developing and managing new business opportunities emphasizing customer support, customer technical requirements development and technology improvement.

• Proven ability to successfully manage teams that consistently meet/exceed customer requirements (technical, quality, cost and schedule) with a team environment that fosters innovation, empowerment, growth and team/individual satisfaction. Demonstrated team building, process development/management, leadership, and management capabilities.

• Experience in working across disciplines/organizations and with outside companies. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills and mentoring ability. Experience in task planning, cost estimating and cost control. Management may decide, at its option, to rotate or reassign incumbents to satisfy management or business needs.

• Strong demonstrated experience in the hardware and software development of measurement systems, control systems, environmental test systems and data acquisition systems for flight and ground portions of spaceflight systems involving power, thermal, telecommunications, instruments, avionics, mechanical, propulsion and optical subsystems is strongly desired. Recent experience in measurement system integration and computer-based instrumentation using graphical programming (including LabView, HP-VEE, Matlab, and C++) and test equipment standard interfaces (including GPIB, IEEE-488, RS-232, VXI, VME, PCI). Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and problem solve for teams and individuals is also a plus.

Quality Supervisor/ CMM Expertise

Have written 150 - 200 coordinate measuring machine (CMM) inspection programs, the majority, being elbows and manifolds. Responsible for daily layouts for 12 machine work centers. Proficiency in blue print reading an acted as a resource for other personnel. I have participated in Six Sigma projects along with conducting internal audits for QS-9000.
