Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust IM&TE in one or more of the following disciplines – pressure, vacuum, flow, dimensional, torque, mass, temperature, humidity, electrical and frequency or radiation measurement to ensure compliance with published specifications. Examples of M&TE: pressure/vacuum gauges/transducers, calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, coordinate measuring machines, optical comparators, torque wrenches/transducers, balances, scales, thermometers, humidity indicators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, frequency counters, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and radiation detection meters/dosimeters. Calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory working standards and equipment. Participate in inter-laboratory comparisons, round robins, and proficiency testing. Collect, compile, summarize, record, and analyze data gathered during calibration. Complete documentation to support laboratory accreditation and traceability as required by ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540 standards and Laboratory Quality System policy and procedures. Provide assistance on metrology issues to scientific and engineering staff. Assist in both internal and external audits. Perform “in-place” calibrations at locations within the Institute campus. Perform laboratory housekeeping and administration.

Knowledge of mechanics, physics, electronics, general metrology, calibration systems, applied math/statistics, measurement uncertainty, quality systems and standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 9001, ANSI/NCSL Z540, ISO/IEC, Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement (GUM) is required. Must be skilled in working with mechanical and electrical inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE). Basic computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and email is required. Must have the ability to develop or modify calibration procedures according to detailed specifications and technical requirements.
