Cal Lab Magazine is a quarterly publication that covers measurement science and instrument calibration for managers, engineers, and technicians. Since 1994, Cal Lab Magazine continues to cover international standards, calibration techniques and new technology for measurement areas: electrical, dimensional, temperature, pressure, flow and mass. This web site is an online extension of the printed magazine, offering a calendar of worldwide conferences and seminars, metrology career postings, industry news, and articles.

History

Cal Lab Magazine was founded in 1994 by Charles Masi, a former editor at Test and Measurement World. At the time there were a handful of test and measurement magazines that would cover calibration products, but only rarely devoted an article to calibration. Mr. Masi launched Cal Lab with investment funding and by the end of 1994 (3 issues) he had not attracted enough advertising revenue to continue publishing.

Carol Singer attained ownership and started publishing with the March-April 1995 issue after serving as editor for the January-February 1995 issue and introducing the magazine at the Measurement Science Conference in January 1995. In the fifth year (1999), Carol changed from a 6-time publication schedule to a quarterly. The magazine flourished under her care, but after 16 years, she was ready for change.

In January 2011, Cal Lab Solutions, a metrology based software and consulting company, acquired Cal Lab Magazine from Carol Singer. Since then, the web site has been reformatted to be more interactive and accessible to its users. New features have been added to the printed magazine, such as Metrology 101 articles and Cal-Toons.

Cal Lab Solutions is committed to continuing Cal Lab Magazine into the future with the same intent of past years, by providing readers and online users with informative and pertinent material for calibration laboratories of the metrology industry.
