A2LA Offers “Fundamentals of Force Calibration” Course in Partnership with Morehouse Instrument Co., Inc.
This course will cover applied force calibration techniques and will include live demonstrations using dead weight primary standards and secondary standards to exhibit potential errors made in everyday force measurements. The measurement errors demonstrated and discussed will include errors associated with improper alignment, use of different and/or incorrect adapter types, thread depth and thread loading.
This course will also cover the importance of calibrating force measurement devices in the manner in which they are being used in order to reduce measurement errors and to lower uncertainty.

The Mass Metrology Seminar is a two-week, “hands-on” seminar. It incorporates approximately 30 percent lectures and 70 percent demonstrations and laboratory work in which the trainee performs measurements by applying procedures and equations discussed in the classroom. The seminar focuses on the comprehension and application of the procedures, the equations, and calculations involved. The seminar includes the operation of the laboratory equipment, review of publications, standards, specifications, and tolerances relevant to the measurements. Training covers mass calibration procedures published in NISTIR 6969 and are suitable for the calibration of mass standards to OIML R111 Class M and F tolerances, ASTM classes 1 through 7 and NIST HB 105-1 Class F. Training is provided to enable the participant to correctly identify and implement the correct calibration process for each weight classification. The entire seminar incorporates statistical analysis, process measurement control methods, uncertainty analyses and generation of ISO/IEC 17025 compliant calibration reports for all measurements made during the seminar.

The Fundamentals of Metrology seminar will introduce the participant to the concepts of measurement systems, units, measurement uncertainty, measurement assurance, traceability, basic statistics and how they fit into the laboratory Quality Management System. Additional topics covered will include overall Laboratory Management and Laboratory Quality Management Systems as well as specific discussions of the requirements for proficiency testing, calibration report generation, software verification and validation and management reviews. Topics will be covered using a variety of measurement disciplines and case studies so that the participants will be able to apply the concepts to any measurement discipline upon completion. Topics will be covered in a mixture of training styles including lecture, hands-on exercises, case studies and discussion.
