Mar 7-18 Mass Metrology Seminar – Gaithersburg, MD

(Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Metrology)

The Mass Metrology Seminar is a 2 week, “hands-on” seminar. It incorporates approximately 30 percent lectures and 70 percent demonstrations and laboratory work in which the trainee performs measurements by applying procedures and equations discussed in the classroom. The seminar focuses on the comprehension and application of the procedures, the equations, and calculations involved. The seminar includes the operation of the laboratory equipment, review of publications, standards, specifications, and tolerances relevant to the measurements. Jan 19-21 Balance and Scale Calibration and Uncertainties – Gaithersburg, MD

This NIST Seminar will cover the calibration and use of analytical weighing instruments (balances and laboratory/bench-top scales), including sources of weighing errors in analytical environments, methodologies for quantifying the errors, and computation of balance calibration uncertainty and global (user) uncertainty. Attention will be given to error sources, selection of reference standards, and various calibration procedures used in the weighing industry. Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 19, 2015.
